EPMC CEO Search

Search underway for the Chief Executive Office of Estes Park Medical Center, a 25-bed Critical Access acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency department, 24-hour ambulance service and available emergency air transport, medical/surgical services, obstetrics, home health care, hospice, Estes Park Medical Group and Specialty Clinic, and Prospect Park Living Center (skilled nursing facility). The hospital opened in 1975 and is owned and operated by the Park Hospital District. It is governed by a five-member governing board elected by hospital district residents for four-year terms. EPMC maintains informal affiliations with two hospital systems in the Front Range for more critical patient care, Level 2 traumas, and group purchasing agreements. Estes Park, Colorado is located 70 miles northwest of Denver at the eastern entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park.


Position Summary

EPMC seeks a dynamic and energetic healthcare executive who will assume a highly visible presence and contributing role within the Estes and Front Range communities. The CEO will be responsible for strategic leadership and direction; the stewardship of resources in order to ensure achievement of EPMC’s mission and vision; the pursuit of patient-centered care, clinical excellence, quality outcomes, and patient safety in partnership with physicians; and the delivery of healthcare services to the community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will work collaboratively with the Board to Identify and communicate a shared vision and related core business strategies which will leverage its size, complexity, diversity, clinical strengths, resources, and regional opportunities while responding to community needs.


Key Selection Criteria:

The candidate must have a Master’s Degree or higher in healthcare, business administration, or related field, Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Business; demonstrated track record in a senior level role within an increasingly competitive rural market; experience in Critical Access hospital settings as a Chief Executive Officer, or executive leadership position in larger health care facility/medical center; demonstrated knowledge of the complexity of clinical healthcare and Fellow of American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE) certification is highly preferred.

The position requires a demonstrated track record within an organization which has experienced changes and excelled at quality outcomes, patient-centered care, and has used appropriate strategies, accountability systems, and communication vehicles to ensure strong strategic, clinical, and financial performance. The incumbent will have strong visioning and strategic skills, accompanied by a decisive, collaborative, and results-oriented leadership style.

The candidate must possess proven business and entrepreneurial skills, accompanied by a track record in guiding an organization to proactively respond to changes in the marketplace. This recruitment is also looking for a leader who strategically, politically, instinctively, and operationally understands physicians’ concerns and issues and has a demonstrated track record in developing creative physician alignment strategies. Additionally the incumbent must have highly credible and clinically astute communication skills; a relational and interactive leader who recognizes the importance of building consensus and providing leadership on the basis of trust, influence, collaboration, respect, and listening skills. The candidate must be a grounded, hands-on, practical leader who is entrepreneurial, imaginative, and resourceful in facing challenges. Proven ability to serve as an effective spokesperson, demonstrated ability to navigate complex political waters, and work effectively with diverse audiences and multiple stakeholders is necessary for success in this role.
